COVID-19 cases cross 15,500 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 11, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has crossed the 15,500 marks in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate of the deadly virus continues to decline during the last three weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,522 in the division with 24 more infections reported on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 24 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 308 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Sunday at the daily infection rate of 7.79 percent.

“The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last three weeks in Rangpur division,” he said.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.20 percent on Saturday, 8.16 percent on Friday, 6.81 percent on Thursday, 7.10 percent on Wednesday, 7.73 percent on Tuesday and 9.50 percent on Monday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,522 patients stands at 3,956 in Rangpur, 776 in Panchagarh, 1,315 in Nilphamari, 958 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,495 in Thakurgaon, 4,577 in Dinajpur and 1,444 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 97,904 collected samples were tested in the division till Monday, and of them, 15,522 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 15.85 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 14,616 with the recovery of 36 more infected people in the division on Sunday at the average recovery rate of about 94.16 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate of 15.85 percent is currently 5.94 times less that the recovery rate of 94.16 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 14,616 recovered patients include 3,529 of Rangpur, 741 of Panchagarh, 1,282 of Nilphamari, 939 of Lalmonirhat, 949 of Kurigram, 1,388 of Thakurgaon, 4,380 of Dinajpur and 1,408 of Gaibandha districts.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 300 in the division with no more deaths reported on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 300 fatalities stands at 70 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,522 COVID-19 patients, 33 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,616 patients and 300 deaths while 573 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the COVID-19 infection rate continues to decline in all eight districts of the division.
