Farmers urged to farm Tuber Crops to earn economic profit.
GAIBANDHA, JAN 11, 2021 (BSS)- Agri experts in a function here yesterday urged the farmers to farm tuber crops in larger scale on their high and fallow land including surroundings of the homesteads to earn economical profit for changing their socio-economic condition.
The farming of the variety could also help achieve their food security and play a significant role to meet the growing demand for mineral and nutrition of the human body, they added.
They made the comments while addressing the inaugural session of the farmers’ training on Tuber Crop cultivation under Tuber Crops Development Project funded by the government of Bangladesh at the hall of the farmers training room of Gobindaganj upazila agriculture office of the department of agricultural extension (DAE) on Saturday.

Agriculturist Khandaker Abdul Wahed, additional director of the DAE, Rangpur region, addressed the function and then formally inaugurated it as the chief guest and Dr. Julfiker Haider, principal scientific officer of Tuber Crop Research Sub Station, Bogura spoke at the function as the special guest while deputy director of the DAE here agriculturist Masudur Rahman presided over the ceremony.
Earlier, upazila agriculture officer (UAO) Md. Khaledur Rahman made a welcome speech and briefed all about the objectives of the project elaborately.
The speakers, in their speeches, urged the trainees to complete the training successfully and apply the knowledge acquired from the training to the farming of tuber crops-yam, pani-kachu, muki-kachu, owl, gachh alu locally known as machh alu and sweet potato in larger scale on the fallow land and the surroundings of the homesteads to get desired output against the crops.
UAO Md. Khaledur Rahman told the BSS that a total of 120 farmers of the upazila would be imparted training on Tuber crops under the project in batches.
Of them, some 40 farmers of the upazila are taking part in the training, he added.
