24 more test COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 10, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-four more people were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today after testing their samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 24 new cases were reported today after diagnosing 308 samples at the infection rate of 7.79 percent in the division where the daily infection rate remains below the 10 percent mark consistently during more than two weeks.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.20 percent on Saturday, 8.16 percent on Friday, 6.81 percent on Thursday, 7.10 percent on Wednesday, 7.73 percent on Tuesday, 9.50 percent on Monday and 4.02 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Among the 24 new patients diagnosed today, seven were reported positive after diagnosing 120 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

The seven new patients include four from Rangpur and one each from Gaibandha, Panchagarh and Dinajpur districts.

On the other hand, 17 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 17 new COVID-19 patients include 14 from Dinajpur, two from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:15 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,522 as 24 new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,522 patients stands at 3,956 in Rangpur, 776 in Panchagarh, 1,315 in Nilphamari, 957 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,495 in Thakurgaon, 4,578 in Dinajpur and 1,444 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
