COVID-19 infection rate continues declining in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 10, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate continued to decline consistently and remained under 10 percent during the last more than two weeks in Rangpur division.

“Only 10 people were found infected after testing 191 samples at two laboratories at the daily infection rate of 5.24 percent in the division on Saturday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 8.16 percent on Friday, 6.81 percent on Thursday, 7.10 percent on Wednesday, 7.73 percent on Tuesday, 9.50 percent on Monday, 4.02 percent on Sunday and 3.23 percent on Saturday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 97,597 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Saturday, and of them, 15,498 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.88 percent.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,498 patients stands at 3,952 in Rangpur, 775 in Panchagarh, 1,313 in Nilphamari, 957 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,494 in Thakurgaon, 4,563 in Dinajpur and 1,443 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,580 with the healing of 33 more infected people on Saturday with an average recovery rate of 94.08 percent in the division.

Currently, the 14,580 recovered patients include 3,523 of Rangpur, 740 of Panchagarh, 1,282 of Nilphamari, 939 of Lalmonirhat, 949 of Kurigram, 1,388 of Thakurgaon, 4,360 of Dinajpur and 1,399 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

“The average recovery rate of 94.08 percent is currently 5.92 times higher than the average infection rate of 15.88 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the number of fatalities remained steady at 300 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Friday.

The district-wise break-up of the 300 fatalities stands at 70 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,498 COVID-19 infected patients, 32 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,580 patients and 300 deaths while 586 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 93,797 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 90,152 released and 3,645 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu suggested people to abide by the health directives to further reduce the infection rate in Rangpur division.
