3 held with 140,000 Yaba tablets in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, Jan 9, 2021 (BSS) – Police arrested three persons with 140,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets in two separate drives in last 24 hours from Eidgarh and Dailpara areas of Teknaf upazila of the district .

The arrested persons were identified as Hafiz Ahmed, 35, resident of Ruma area of Bandarban, Nurul Islam, 30, son of Md. Zakaria of Huaikyong Kanchan area of Teknaf and Jamal Hossain, 35, son of late Md. Shabbir Ahmed of Khankar Dail area of Teknaf Municipality.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Cox’s Bazar Hasanuzzaman said Detective Branch acting on secret information recovered one lakh yaba tablets after searching an auto rickshaw in the Panisyaghona area of Eidgarh-Baishari road this morning.

Police arrested one person in this connection.

In another drive, SP said police raided Sabrang Dailpara area of Teknaf around 11:30 pm on Friday and recovered 40,000 yaba tablets from the spot and arrested two persons in this connection.

Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station Md Hafizur Rahman said a police team led by OC (Operations) Khurshed Alam saw two people carrying fishing nets and on suspicion challenged them and after search their fishing baskets police found 40,000 pieces of yaba tablets and arrested them.

Local market value of the recovered yaba tablets is estimated at about TK four crore, police said.

Two separate cases were filed in this regard.
