25 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 8, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-five more people were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today after diagnosing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the 25 new cases were reported after diagnosing the samples collected from all eight districts of the division at the infection rate of about 8.86 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rate was 6.81 percent on Thursday, 7.10 percent on Wednesday, 7.73 percent on Tuesday, 9.50 percent on Monday, 4.02 percent on Sunday, 3.23 percent on Saturday and 9.29 percent on Friday last in the division.

“The daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last more than two weeks in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Among the 25 new patients, only six were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) COVID-19 laboratory in Rangpur city.
“The six new patients include four of Rangpur and one each of Lalmonirhat and Panchagarh districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 19 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) COVID-19 laboratory in Dinajpur.

“The 19 new COVID-19 patients include 17 of Dinajpur and two of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Prof Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 5 pm.

Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,490 in Rangpur division as 25 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,490 patients stands at 3,952 in Rangpur, 775 in Panchagarh, 1,311 in Nilphamari, 957 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,493 in Thakurgaon, 4,561 in Dinajpur and 1,440 in Gaibandha,” he said.
