Rajshahi records declining trend in COVID-19 infection

RAJSHAHI, Jan 8, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi division today recorded a remarkable declining trend in daily Covid-19 infection compared to the previous day as the health department reported 18 new cases in the last 24-hour till Thursday evening, raising the total number to 24,693.

Of the infected patients, 22,556 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with a significant 30 new recoveries found during the time, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 376 including 233 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with no fatality reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest six were detected in Sirajgonj followed by five in Bogura, three each in Rajshahi city and Pabna and one in Joypurhat districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,862 in Rajshahi including 4,386 in its city, 818 in Chapainawabganj, 1,558 in Naogaon, 1,208 in Natore, 1,326 in Joypurhat, 9,658 in Bogura, 2,635 in Sirajganj and 1,628 in Pabna.

A number of 2,882 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,281 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,564 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on a 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 25 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 42 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,667 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,909 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
