Daily infection rate remains below 10pc in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 7, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark during the last more than two weeks in Rangpur division bringing some relief to common people.

Health officials said 23 new people were reported coronavirus positive today after testing 323 collected samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 7.10 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 7.10 percent on Wednesday 6.73 percent on Tuesday, 9.50 percent on Monday, 4.02 percent on Sunday, 3.23 percent on Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday and 8.87 percent on Thursday last in the division.

Among the 23 new patients diagnosed today, 12 were diagnosed positive after testing 135 collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 12 new COVID-19 infected patients include nine of Rangpur and one each of Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 11 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 11 new COVID-19 patients include seven of Dinajpur, three of Thakurgaon and one of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:20 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,466 as 33 new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,466 patients stands at 3,948 in Rangpur, 774 in Panchagarh, 1,312 in Nilphamari, 956 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,492 in Thakurgaon, 4,545 in Dinajpur and 1,438 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
