Covid-19 cases cross 31,000 marks in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 7, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases in the district crossed 31,000 marks as 114 new cases were diagnosed with the lethal virus after testing 1620 samples in seven COVID-19 laboratories in the last 24 hours.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 31,094 in Chattogram district till today,” Civil surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi told BSS.

Among the newly detected patients, 99 are from Chattogram city and 15 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that the death toll from the virus rose to 360 with one fatality reported afresh in the last 24 hours.

Among the total infected patients, 24,236 are the residents of the port city and the rest 6,990 are the inhabitants of different upazilas of the district.

A total of 29,681 coronavirus patients have, so far, recovered from Covid-19 and the percentage of recovery rate stands at 95.46 in the district, he added.

“The recovered patients were discharged from different home isolations and Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals of the district as two consecutives real-time PCR tests were found negative,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that 1,425 patients are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals in the port city.
