Daily infection rate continues declining in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 6, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus infection rate
continued to decline consistently and remained below 10 percent during
the last two weeks in Rangpur division bringing a sigh of relief to
common people.

Health officials said only 13 new people were reported coronavirus
positive after testing 183 collected samples at two COVID-19
Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 7.10
percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 6.73 percent on Tuesday,
9.50 percent on Monday, 4.02 percent on Sunday, 3.23 percent on
Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday, 8.87 percent on Thursday and 4.79
percent on Wednesday last in the division.

Among the 13 new patients diagnosed, three were diagnosed positive
after testing 94 collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at
Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The three new COVID-19 infected patients include two of Rangpur and
one of Gaibandha districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus
Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr.
AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 10 new patients were reported after diagnosing
89 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 10 new COVID-19 patients include nine of Dinajpur and one of
Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir
Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19
patients rose to 15,443 as 13 new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,443 patients stands at
3,940 in Rangpur, 774 in Panchagarh, 1,311 in Nilphamari, 956 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,486 in Thakurgaon, 4,538 in Dinajpur
and 1,438 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
