Producing, preserving quality seed of high value crops underscored

GAIBANDHA, Jan 06, 2021 (BSS) – Agriculture experts in a function here have stressed the need for producing, preserving and distributing high quality seed of various crops including paddy, wheat and jute to get desired output.

They gave the importance while addressing a field day on the demonstration of seed production block in Shimulerta area under Subarnadaha of Sundarganj upazila in the district on Tuesday.

Sundarganj upazila agriculture office under the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) arranged the function under a project run by the DAE.

Agriculturist Khandakar Abdul Wahed, additional director of the DAE, Rangpur region, addressed the function as the chief guest.

Deputy director of DAE agriculturist Masudur Rahman was present at the event as the special guest while Mahmud Reza Munna, upazila agriculture officer, presided over it.

The speakers said there is no alternative to producing high quality seed to enhance production.

In this context, the field level sub assistant agriculture officers (SAAOs) of the DAE should play pioneer role in motivating the farmers to produce standard seed of high value crops at their own initiatives, they said.

The experts also elaborated on the various modern agriculture technologies for producing crops to achieve sustainable food security in the country.

Later, they along with farmers visited the seed demonstration plots and briefed the farmers on how to prepare it.

A large numbers of farmers, local elite and public representatives were present on the occasion.
