Uncovering genome of corona sequencing is an achievement: CU VC
CHATTOGRAM, 5 January 2021 (BSS) – Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram University (CU) Prof Shirin Akhtar said the unveiling of the genome sequencing of the corona was a golden achievement of the university.
“This innovation of the researchers is a great joy and pride for the university family. The research team is working for the welfare of the country and the people by sharing their skills and experience. Their discovery of the genetic modification of the Corona virus will play an important role in counteracting the Covid-19 epidemic,” she added.
She was speaking as chief guest at a reception hosted by the CU Research Team, who unveiled the genome sequencing of coronaviruses, organized by the university authority held at the conference room of the CU Vice-Chancellor’s office this afternoon.
Speaking at the function, the Vice-Chancellor said that in spite of hundreds of obstacles, the teachers of CU continued their efforts in their research work to create and innovate new knowledge and research.
“The recent discovery (genome sequencing) of the coronavirus gene by a CU research team is highly commendable,” she said.
Terming CU is an open field for knowledge and research Dr Shirin said that their organization is advancing at an indomitable pace in knowledge and research.
The researchers are: Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and CU Proctor Dr. Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan, Associate Professor of Botany Mohammad Omar Farooq Russell, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, Imranul Haque and Dr. HM Abdullah Al Masood.
