5.83pc COVID-19 infection rate recorded in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 5, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division today recorded 5.83 percent daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate amid the continuous declining trend of the virus spread during the past couple of weeks.

Health officials said only 13 new people were reported coronavirus positive today after testing 223 collected samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 5.83 percent.

The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last two weeks in Rangpur division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 9.50 percent on Monday, 4.02 percent on Sunday, 3.23 percent on Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday, 8.87 percent on Thursday, 4.79 percent on Wednesday and 6.91 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

Among the 13 new patients diagnosed today, four were diagnosed positive after testing 129 collected samples today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The four new COVID-19 infected patients include three of Rangpur and one of Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, nine new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The nine new COVID-19 patients include six of Dinajpur and three of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,428 as 13 new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,428 patients stands at 3,937 in Rangpur, 773 in Panchagarh, 1,310 in Nilphamari, 956 in Lalmonirhat, 1,001 in Kurigram, 1,487 in Thakurgaon, 4,530 in Dinajpur and 1,434 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
