People’s participation in PPM to grow with appropriate implementation of e-procurement: Anisul

DHAKA, Jan 05, 2021 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said people’s participation and transparency in public procurement management (PPM) will go up with the appropriate implementation of e-procurement system.

“Importance of e-procurement system in public procurement is immeasurable for lowering the possibility of corruption and getting proper product quickly on the fitting price,” he said, an official release said.

The minister said these while addressing an online training course on e-procurement for judicial officers organized by Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI). Thirty-three judicial officers are taking part in the three-week long course under a project titled ‘Strengthening Lower Court and Increasing Efficiency of Law and Justice Division’.

Anisul Huq said the chance of corruption remains in public procurement through analog system.

“One of the goals of this present government is to ensure transparency and accountability by getting rid of corruption from all the sectors. Different reforms were made in public procurement in last 10 years to make this process more transparent and pro-people. I hope if we can conduct public procurement process with efficiency and transparency, by following existing laws and rules, corruption will go down and good governance will be established,” he added.

The minister said the judges have to get involved with different types of public procurement process, apart from conducting trial.

“So they have to achieve basic ideas about legal infrastructure of public procurement, organizational management of modern public procurement system, different stages of public procurement cycle and process,” he further said.

Presided over by JATI Director General Justice Khondker Musa Khaled, the function was further addressed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar, project director (joint secretary) Bikash Kumar Saha and JATI director (training) Md Golam Kibria.
