RAJSHAHI, Jan 5, 2021 (BSS)- Some 247 less-income and other marginalized families were given financial assistance to facilitate them to overcome their living and livelihood related constraints being caused by the present novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation.

Rajshahi Regional Office of Caritas Bangladesh extended the support on behalf of its project styled “Humanitarian Assistance to multi-hazard affected vulnerable people under the Urban Management of migration due to Climate Change”.

Each of the beneficiary households was given Taka 5,000 through a simple ceremony held on Mahishbathan Adarsha Girls High School premises in the city on Monday afternoon.

Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended the ceremony as the chief guest and handed over the donated money to the enlisted people with Caritas Rajshahi Regional Director Sukleash George Costa in the chair.

Ward Councilors of Rajshahi City Corporation Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Motiur Rahman and Ayesha Khatun, former principal of Rajshahi Court Degree College Prof Shafiqur Rahman and Officer-in-Charge of Rajpara Police Station Majharul Islam were present on the occasion.

Sukleash Costa told the meeting that each of the recipients will also get another Taka 5,000 each in two phases next.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said integrated efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned have become an urgent need to face the adverse impacts of the pandemic situation.

Local government institutions, members of the civil societies and social actors should come forward and work together side by side with the civil administrations as the government is pledged-bound to cope with the fallout situation, he added.
