Rangpur division records 8.14pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Jan 4, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division recorded 8.14 percent
daily coronavirus infection rate today as the same continues to
decline during the last ten days bringing relief to common people.

Health officials said only 16 new people were reported coronavirus
positive after testing 221 collected samples at two COVID-19
Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 8.14
percent.

The daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.02 percent on Sunday,
3.23 percent on Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday, 8.87 percent on
Thursday, 4.79 percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday and 8.59
percent on Monday last in the division.

Among the 16 new patients diagnosed today, six were diagnosed
positive after testing 132 collected samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The six new COVID-19 infected patients include five of Rangpur and
one of Gaibandha districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus
Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr.
AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 12 new patients were reported after diagnosing 89
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“All of the 12 new COVID-19 patients are hailing from different
areas of Dinajpur district,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed
Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:40
pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19
patients rose to 15,410 as 16 new positive cases were reported.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,410 patients stands at
3,934 in Rangpur, 771 in Panchagarh, 1,310 in Nilphamari, 956 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,000 in Kurigram, 1,483 in Thakurgaon, 4,525 in Dinajpur
and 1,433 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
