Two to die for killing one in Meherpur
MEHERPUR, Jan 4, 2021 (BSS) – A district court here today sentenced two
persons to death for killing a housewife Jarina Khatun at Sadar upazila of
the district in 2010.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Ripti Kumar Biswas pronounced the
verdict this noon. The convicted were fined Taka 10 thousand at the same
time.
The death row convicts are Jarina’s husband Saidul Islam, son of Nabir
Uddin of Isakhali village and his first wife Jamila Khatun.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that Jarina Khatun was missing on
January 31, 2010. On the afternoon of February 6, Jarina’s body was found in
the ground of a mosuri field in Jadabpur village under Sadar upazila of the
district which was buried there.
After the incident, Jarina’s sister Ferdous Khatun filed a case with
Meherpur Sadar Police Station against the accused. A total of twelve
witnesses testified in the case.
Police submitted chargesheet against them after investigation of the case.
On behalf of the court, Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Kazi
Shahid conducted the case and took oath in the case against the accused.
Saidul Islam and his first wife Jamila Khatun are still at large.
