Rajshahi records slight rise in COVID-19 infection

RAJSHAHI, Jan 4, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi division today recorded a slight surging trend in daily Covid-19 infection than the previous day as the health department reported 45 new cases in the last 24-hour till Sunday evening, raising the total number to 24,581.

Of the infected patients, 22,325 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with a significant 88 new recoveries found during the time, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 372 including 230 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with two more fatalities reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 19 were found in Bogura followed by nine in Joypurhat, eight in Rajshahi including six in its city, five in Pabna and four in Natore districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,839 in Rajshahi including 4,368 in its city, 817 in Chapainawabganj, 1,545 in Naogaon, 1,199 in Natore, 1,315 in Joypurhat, 9,634 in Bogura, 2,615 in Sirajganj and 1,617 in Pabna.

A number of 2,874 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,245 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,482 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 113 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 66 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,482 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,638 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
