Coronavirus: 15,394 infected, 14,378 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 4, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,394 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,378 already cured in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining consistently in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,394 as seven new patients were reported after testing 174 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Sunday with the daily infection rate of 4.02 percent.

“The daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below 10 percent consistently during the last more than one week in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The daily COVID-19 infection rates were 3.23 percent on Saturday, 9.29 percent on Friday, 8.87 percent on Thursday, 4.79 percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday and 7.98 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 99,174 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 15,394 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.01 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,378 with the healing of 49 more infected people on Sunday with an average recovery rate of 93.40 percent in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently 5.83 times higher than the average infection rate,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,394 patients stands at 3,929 in Rangpur, 771 in Panchagarh, 1,310 in Nilphamari, 956 in Lalmonirhat, 1,000 in Kurigram, 1,483 in Thakurgaon, 4,513 in Dinajpur and 1,432 in Gaibandha districts.

At the same time, the 14,378 recovered patients include 3,462 of Rangpur, 729 of Panchagarh, 1,269 of Nilphamari, 930 of Lalmonirhat, 934 of Kurigram, 1,369 of Thakurgaon, 4,286 of Dinajpur and 1,399 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 296 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Sunday.

“The district-wise break up of the 296 fatalities stands at 69 in Rangpur, 107 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 15 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at around 1.92 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,394 COVID-19 infected patients, 40 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,394 patients and 296 deaths while 680 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 93,335 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 89,557 released and 3,998 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the daily infection rate continues to decline consistently in recent days across the division.
