Rajshahi records continuous decline in COVID-19 infection

RAJSHAHI, Jan 3, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi division today also recorded a further declining trend in daily Covid-19 infection than the previous day as the health department reported 19 new cases in the last 24-hour till Saturday evening, raising the total number to 24,536.

Of the infected patients, 22,337 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 23 new recoveries found during the time, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 370 including 228 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with four more fatalities reported afresh today after a gap of three consecutive days, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest seven were found in Bogura followed by five in Rajshahi city, three in Naogaon, two in Pabna and one each in Natore and Joypurhat districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,831 in Rajshahi including 4,362 in its city, 817 in Chapainawabganj, 1,545 in Naogaon, 1,195 in Natore, 1,306 in Joypurhat, 9,615 in Bogura, 2,615 in Sirajganj and 1,612 in Pabna.

A number of 2,870 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,237 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,427 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 34 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 99 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,369 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,572 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
