‘Social services contributes to cope with COVID-19 pandemic’

RANGPUR, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Successful implementation of massive social welfare services is contributing to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic along with ensuring inclusive development on way to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The observation came today at a discussion organized by the Department of Social Services (DSS) to observe the National Social Services Day-2021 at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the city.

Government officials and employees, executives of different NGOs and organizations working for the welfare of physically challenged and unprivileged people, civil society members and elite attended the occasion.

DC Md. Asib Ahsan addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DSS for Rangpur Md. Abdul Matin in the chair.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for Rangpur ABM Jakir Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy, Divisional Director of the DSS for Rangpur division Mossarraf Hossain and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani addressed as special guests.

In his welcome speech, Abdul Matin discussed the massive social welfare activities, including massive social net, allowances and training programmes, being implemented by the government to ensure inclusive development of all people leaving none behind.

The speakers lauded social welfare activities being implemented by the DSS extensively contributing to reduce poverty and improving the living standard of socially backward, poor, distressed and physically challenged and unprivileged people.

They said the massive social welfare activities are effectively helping the poor, distressed and backward people in facing the crisis situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to lead normal life and run their income generating activities.

The PBI’s SP said Bangladesh is being transformed into a social welfare state following implementation of massive social welfare activities by the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to ensure inclusive development of all people.

The chief guest called upon officials concerned to implement the government’s massive social service programmes speedily with complete transparency in reaching benefits to the targeted people for their inclusive development to achieve the SDGs.
