Call to infuse dynamism into social services

RAJSHAHI, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion here today unequivocally called for infusing dynamism into the social services for the welfare of the people with special needs and other underprivileged sections of the society.

They put emphasis on ensuring transparency and accountability in all the welfare-oriented social service activities so that the target group of people could derive total benefits of the welfare programmes.

Department of Social Services (DSS) and District administration jointly organised the discussion at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in observance of the National Social Service Day-2021.

On the occasion, 30 blankets, four wheelchairs, one rickshaw van and 100 facemasks were handed over to the persons in need.
The theme of the day this year is ‘Building a Hunger and Poverty Free Society, Services and Opportunities at the End’.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Divisional Director of DSS AKM Sarwar Jahan and social worker Shahin Akter Rainy spoke as special guests with DSS Deputy Director Hasina Momtaz in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioners Shariful Haque and Nazrul Islam, Member of National Disabled Welfare Council Mozammel Haque and DSS Assistant Director Dr Abdullah Al Firoj also spoke.

The deputy commissioner said the government is implementing various social safety net programs for overall development of the public in general.

He urged the officials and staff concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for successful implementation of the programmes taken by the government.

Nearly 100 government and non-government officials and employees and volunteers joined the programme.
