Textbook distribution among students begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Jan 02, 2021 (BSS) – Textbook distribution among the students of primary, secondary and madrasha here began yesterday on the first day of the New Year as elsewhere in the country amid the coronavirus situation.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin handed over books to the students of Jubilee Govt. Primary School and Gaibandha Govt. Girls’ High school separately maintaining social distancing after reaching the educational institutions.

District education officer (DEO) Md. Enayet Hossain and district primary education officer (DPEO) Md. Hossain Ali accompanied the DC during the book distribution activities.

DC office sources said no unnecessary gathering took place on the occasion of book distribution at the initiative of the district and upazila administrations along with education offices in the district.

DEO Enayet Hossain said 436000 books would be distributed to 3 lakh 40 thosand and 967 students of secondary schools including madrashas of the district this year free of cost.

Over 70 percent students received books on the first day of the new academic year, he also said.

The chiefs of the respective educational institutions distributed the books to the students following the health guidelines to check coronavirus, the DEO added.

DPEO Hossain Ali said a target was set to distribute 22 lakh, 73 thousand and 500 books to 4 lakh 66 thousand and 902 students of 2635 primary schools including Ebtedayee madrasahs of the district this year.

Around 60 percent students got books from the chiefs of the schools on the first day of the New Year, he said.
