21 more test COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 1, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-one more people were tested for
coronavirus positive today after testing their samples at the two
COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 21 new cases were reported after
diagnosing 182 samples collected from across the division at the
infection rate of 11.54 percent which is above 10 percent in the last
six days in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates 8.87 percent on Thursday, 4.79
percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday
and 7.98 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Among the 21 new patients diagnosed, five were reported positive
after diagnosing 93 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

The five new patients include four of Rangpur and one of
Lalmonirhat districts.

On the other hand, 16 new patients were reported after diagnosing 89
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 16 new COVID-19 patients include 13 of Dinajpur, two of
Nilphamari and one of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing
process at 8 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19
patients rose to 15,387 as 21 new positive cases were reported.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,387 patients stands at
3,927 in Rangpur, 769 in Panchagarh, 1,309 in Nilphamari, 956 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,000 in Kurigram, 1,482 in Thakurgaon, 4,512 in Dinajpur
and 1,432 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
