27 lakh students getting 4-crore books in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 1, 2021 (BSS) – Some 27 lakh students of over 18,000
primary and secondary level educational institutions will get about
four crore pieces of new textbooks as the National Textbook
Distribution Festival-2021 began in Rangpur division today.

Officials said students of the primary level educational
institutions received new textbooks at colourful ceremonies in Rangpur
division amid huge enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity on the New Year’s
Day today.

The authorities of the educational institutions organised the
ceremonies abiding by the health directives in all eight districts of
the division.

The Deputy Commissioners, District and Upazila Primary Education
Officers, Upazila Nirbahi Officers and public representatives
inaugurated the festival in other seven districts and 58 upazila
headquarters of the division.

Officials said the phase-wise distribution of some four crore pieces
of new text books among the primary and secondary level students of
18,184 educational institutions will be completed by January 12 next
in Rangpur division.

Of them, about 1.40 crore new textbooks were distributed among the
students of primary level schools and madrasas and some 2.60 crore
books among the students of secondary level schools, madrasas and
vocational institutions in the division.

In Rangpur city, the District Primary Education Office with
assistance of Directorate of Primary Education organised the main book
distribution function on Rangpur Munshipara Government Girls’ Primary
School ground.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the book distributing
festival by distributing books among primary level students as the
chief guest.

With President of the School Managing Committee Md. Sirajul Islam
in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahnaz Begum and
District Primary Education (DPEO) Officer ASM Shahjahan Siddique
attended the function as special guests.

Talking to BSS, the DPEO said a total of 20 lakh 43 thousand and 974
new textbooks were distributed today among five lakh 289 thousand and
380 students of 2,036 government and nongovernment primary schools in
all eight upazilas of the district.

After getting new textbooks today, class-five students Anima and
Mokhlesur and class four students Mukul and Afroza and class-three
students Mahfuza and Munir of different primary schools in Rangpur
city expressed happiness.

“I am extremely happy after getting new textbooks on the very first
day of the New Year 2021 as the New Year’s gift from Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina,” said another class five student Borhan in the city.

Similarly, students Masum and Julekha of class four and Kamil of
class three of different schools in the city expressed happiness after
getting new textbooks.
