Experts for strengthening supply chain management with focus on CMSMEs

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2021 (BSS) – Experts at a virtual discussion have underscored the need for strengthening effective supply chain management with special focus on the cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs) for developing the sector.

They made the observation at the discussion on “Empathy for Strengthening Effective Supply Chain Management with special focus on CMSMES” held on Wednesday, said a press release today.

Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Center at University of Dhaka organised the discussion.

Business Studies Faculty Dean (Acting) Professor Dr Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SureCash Dr. Shahadat Khan, Executive Director of the TMSS Professor Dr Hosne-Ara Begum and Director Finance of the PRAN-RFL Group Uzma Chowdhury took part at the discussion.

Executive Director of the ICE Center Md Rashedur Rahman was the moderator of the discussion.

Dr Shahadat Khan noted that although the economic system of the country might have specific policies for small or medium enterprises, there are very few for cottage or micro enterprises.

“By enabling ‘access to finance’ for cottage or micro industry, we can not only aid these industries but also further strengthen and develop our entire supply chain layout,” he added.

On Tuesday night, ICE Center organised another virtual discussion title “Empathy for CMSMES Empowerment”.

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr ASM. Maksud Kamal, former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, Chairman of the PKSF Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad and General Manager of the SME and Special Programs Department of the Bangladesh Bank Husne Ara Shikha, among others, spoke on the occasion.

In his speech, Dr Atiur Rahman highlighted four areas: Pro-active policy, co-ordination, making the policies easy for everyone to understand and to keep the communications channel active at all times no matter what policy is undertaken.
