Meanwhile, all the targeted students have started getting new books as schools and other institutions concerned inaugurated their respective book distribution programme through handing over books to students this morning following health safety measures amid the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation.

The latest official data said over 46.32 lakh students of 13,094 schools will get around 4.16 crore books in all eight districts of Rajshahi division this year.

“We have already started distributing books among the students as per the government’s instruction since this morning,” said Abul Kalam Azad, Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education.

In Rajshahi division, 23,52,571 students of 8,662 primary schools will get around 1.11 crore books this year, he added.

Kalam Azad told BSS that required numbers of books were sent to all the government and registered non-government schools in the division for distribution among the students.

He, however, said all the students will get new books within 12 days of the New Year.

On the other hand, 22,79,173 students of 4,432 secondary schools including 1,497 madrasas will get over 3.04 lakh books in the division, said Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury, Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education.

She said the present government has been distributing free books to the school students aimed at ensuring education for all to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy.

The students were seen very happy after getting new books on the first day of the year and we have kept five percent books as buffer stock for meeting any deficit and for the newly admitted students.

“We have arranged alternative measures of handing over books to the students amid the COVID-19 situation,” she added.
