High yielding BARI mustard farming makes farmers happy in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Jan 1, 2020 (BSS) – Farmers have become happy after cultivating high yielding variety BARI mustard seed in their high fallow lands and vast char areas of the district.

The high yielding BARI Mustard fields which are now in full bloom in the vast tracts of land in the six upazilas of the districts have already worn eye catching yellow looks. The growers are expecting desired production against the crop this year.

Habibur Rahman, a farmer of Adiabad village under Raipura upazilas of the district, said he farmed the variety on five bighas of land this year as the cultivation of BARI mustard has gained much popularity among the farmers of the district and they are getting desired production and also fair prices of the cash crop in recent years.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Office sources said farmers in all the six upazilas of the district have cultivated over 4500 hectares of land during the current season with the hope of getting production of 6800 tonnes of mustard.

Terming the mustard as eco-friendly Deputy Director, DAE Narsingdi Shovan Kumar Dhar said the Department has provided quality seeds, necessary inputs and training on the latest technologies for good yield of mustard seed.

He underscored the need for using the latest agro-technologies and disseminating proper knowledge to the farmers for increasing mustard seed to achieve self-reliance in edible oil to reduce the dependence on import.
