Coronavirus: 15,366 infected, 14,310 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 1, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,366 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,310 already cured in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining consistently in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,366 as 25 new patients were reported after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Thursday with the daily infection rate of 8.87 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates remained below the 10 percent mark and were 4.79 percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday and 7.98 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 95,692 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday night, and of them, 15,366 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.06 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,310 with the healing of 60 more infected people on Thursday with an average recovery rate of 93.13 percent in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently 5.80 times higher than the average infection rate,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,366 patients stands at 3,923 in Rangpur, 769 in Panchagarh, 1,307 in Nilphamari, 955 in Lalmonirhat, 1,000 in Kurigram, 1,481 in Thakurgaon, 4,499 in Dinajpur and 1,432 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

“Currently, the 14,310 recovered patients include 3,426 of Rangpur, 728 of Panchagarh, 1,267 of Nilphamari, 930 of Lalmonirhat, 934 of Kurigram, 1,369 of Thakurgaon, 4,263 of Dinajpur and 1,393 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddique said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities climbed to 293 in the division with one more death reported from Rangpur on Thursday.

“The district-wise break up of the 293 fatalities stands at 69 in Rangpur, 104 in Dinajpur, 32 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 15 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at around 1.91 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,366 COVID-19 infected patients, 41 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,310 patients and 293 deaths while 772 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 93,216 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 89,125 released and 4,091 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection rate continues declining consistently in recent weeks across the division.

He especially called upon common people to sincerely wear masks while remaining outside and strictly abide by the health directives to remain safe from COVID-19 infection.
