Below 10pc COVID-19 infection rate in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 31, 2020 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate continues to remain below the 10 percent mark in Rangpur division in recent days bringing relief to common people.

Health officials said 24 new people were reported coronavirus positive after testing 282 collected samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division today at the daily infection rate of 8.51 percent.

Earlier, the recorded daily infection rates were 4.79 percent on Wednesday, 6.91 percent on Tuesday, 8.59 percent on Monday and 7.98 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Among the 24 new patients diagnosed today, eight were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

The eight new patients include four of Rangpur, two of Kurigram and one each of Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.

On the other hand, 16 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 16 new COVID-19 patients include 14 of Dinajpur and two of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:55 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,365 as 24 new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,365 patients stands at 3,923 in Rangpur, 766 in Panchagarh, 1,308 in Nilphamari, 955 in Lalmonirhat, 998 in Kurigram, 1,481 in Thakurgaon, 4,502 in Dinajpur and 1,4232 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
