2 members of Harkat-ul-Jihad held in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 30, 2020 (BSS) – Two active members of the outlawed Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh including its regional commander were arrested in Rajshahi early this morning.

Police sources said the arrested persons were identified as Ibrahim Khalil, 41, son of late Anwar Hossain of Purandarpur village under Jhikargacha Upazila in Jashore and Abdul Aziz alias Noman, 23, son of Abdul Halim of Basurhat village under Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali district.

On a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid at Kharkhari Bazar area under Kharkhari Police Station in Rajshahi city and arrested them around 6 am.

Abu Kalam Siddique, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said Ibrahim Khalil has been working as regional commander of the militant organization to reorganize it in the region for the last couple of months. Abdul Aziz alias Noman is one of the new members, he added.

Addressing a press briefing at his office conference hall this noon he also said four other gang members fled away from the scene sensing the police appearance. Police are continuing the efforts of arresting them as their particulars were already collected.

Kalam Siddique said necessary legal action against the detained persons was taken.
