Rajshahi records a slight rise in COVID-19 infection

RAJSHAHI, Dec 30, 2020 (BSS) – Rajshahi division has recorded a slight rise in Covid-19 infection in a day after a spiral of falling trend as the health department reported 76 new cases in the last 24-hour till Tuesday evening, raising the number to 24378.

Of the infected patients, 22,110 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 16 new recoveries found during the time, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 366 including 224 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with one more fatality reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 27 were detected in Sirajgonj followed by 20 in Bogura, 18 in Naogaon, seven in Rajshahi including three in its city and two each in Natore and Joypurhat districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,806 in Rajshahi including 4,337 in its city, 817 in Chapainawabganj, 1,533 in Naogaon, 1,181 in Natore, 1,290 in Joypurhat, 9,570 in Bogura, 2,584 in Sirajganj and 1,597 in Pabna.

A number of 2,864 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,195 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,407 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 46 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 22 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,234 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,339 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
