Rooppur power plant to get rail links

DHAKA, July 10, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Railway today signed an agreement with three contracting companies to provide dual-gauge railway links to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant from Ishwardi bypass station in Pabna.

Indian company GTP and Bangladeshi companies SEL and CCCL will jointly construct the railway links under the agreement of Taka 297.55 crore, said a press release here.

Bangladesh Railway West Zone General Manger Md Majibur Rahman, on behalf of Bangladesh, and Subhash Chandra Hawlader, on behalf of the construction company, signed the agreement at the Rail Bhaban here.

Railways Minister Md Mujibul Haque attended the function while CCCL Company Director and parliament member Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Railways Secretary Md Mofazzel Hossain and Bangladesh Railway Director General Md Amzad Hossain were present on the occasion, among others.

Under the agreement, 22 kilometer main railway tracks and 4.5 kilometer loop line will be constructed. Besides, a station building, a platform and 13 level crossing gates will be constructed. The construction works will end in 18 months.

Mujibul Haque said the project is a very important one of the Bangladesh Railway as the rail link will ease the transport of heavy equipments and other materials from Chittagong and Khulna ports to the Rooppur nuclear power plant.
