15 more beggars get Tk 4.5lakh for rehabilitation in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 29, 2020 (BSS)- A total of 15 more beggars were given Taka 4.5 lakh for their rehabilitation as part of the efforts of freeing the district from beggars.

In the second phase of the distribution programme, each of the beneficiaries was given Taka 30,000 at a simple ceremony held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday.

The district administration has mobilized funds worth Taka 1.09 crore including Taka 35 lakh from Prime Minister’s Office and Taka 65.77 lakh from one-day salaries of officers and employees for the beggar rehabilitation purposes.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque and Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Hasina Momtaj distributed the bank cheques of the financial support.

Earlier in the first phase, 217 beggars were given financial support aimed at rehabilitating them through income-generation and poverty reduction for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abdul Jalil told the meeting that the government has a rehabilitation project for the beggars.

“We have many programmes to ensure food security for the people. We believe that we will be successful in implementing the decision to make our district beggar-free.”

He also urged all including local administration, women affairs officers, social service officers, family planning officers, district registrar, district information officer and the media men to make the initiative a total success.
