COVID-19 infection on downward trend in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Dec 29, 2020 (BSS) – Recovery cases from Covid-19 constantly dominate infection rate for the last couple of days as the health department in its official report has shown a declining trend of the global pandemic in Rajshahi division today.

With 30 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24-hour till Monday evening, one of the lowest infections than the previous couple of weeks, the total COVID-19 infected patients now reached 24,302 in the division, said the official report.

Of the infected patients, 22,094 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 47 new recoveries found in the last 24 hours, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 365 including 223 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with one more fatality reported afresh today after a gap of five consecutive days, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 16 were detected in Bogura followed by four in Rajshahi city, three in Naogaon, two each in Chapainawabganj, Joypurhat and Pabna and one in Sirajgonj districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,799 in Rajshahi including 4,334 in its city, 817 in Chapainawabganj, 1,515 in Naogaon, 1,179 in Natore, 1,288 in Joypurhat, 9,550 in Bogura, 2,557 in Sirajganj and 1,597 in Pabna.

A number of 2,860 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,159 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,400 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 43 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 25 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,188 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,317 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
