4 killed, 6 injured in road accident in northern India

NEW DELHI, July 10, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least four people have been
killed and six others injured after their car turned turtle in northern
Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Tuesday.

The accident occurred in the state’s Sonbhadra district.

According to a police official, the car carrying 10 people overturned after
ramming into a divider late Monday evening. While four people died on the
spot, the injured were hospitalized.

The victims were from the central state of Chhattisgarh. “Their bodies have
been sent for an autopsy, following which they will be handed over to family
members,” he said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said, adding that
preliminary investigation suggested that the car was travelling at high speed
that led to the accident.

India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road
accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and
vehicles.
