Recovery from COVID-19 dominates infection in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Dec 27, 2020 (BSS) – Recovery cases from Covid-19 dominates infection rate as the health department in its official report has shown a declining trend of the global pandemic in Rajshahi division today.

With 24 new coronavirus positive cases in the last 24-hour till Saturday evening, one of the lowest infections than the previous couple of days, the total COVID-19 infected patients now reached 24,233 in the division, said the official report.

Of the infected patients, 21,997 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 51 new recoveries found in the last 24 hours, it added.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 364 including 222 in Bogura and 54 in Rajshahi with no more fatality reported afresh for the fourth consecutive days today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest eight were detected in Bogura followed by five in Sirajgonj, four in Rajshahi city, three each in Naogaon and Joypurhat and one in Natore districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,789 in Rajshahi including 4,324 in its city, 815 in Chapainawabganj, 1,512 in Naogaon, 1,176 in Natore, 1,284 in Joypurhat, 9,522 in Bogura, 2,546 in Sirajganj and 1,589 in Pabna.

A number of 2,853 identified patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,137 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,388 have, by now, been released.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

On the other hand, a total of 22 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 89 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 64,070 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 62,234 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.
