Govt is determined to maintain communal harmony in country: Faridul

DHAKA, Dec 23, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan today said that the government is determined to maintain communal harmony in the country at any cost.

“Communal harmony is the (most) desired matter in the current world. As such, the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to maintain communal harmony in the country at any cost,” he said.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing an inter-religion workshop at Gopalganj district virtually in the morning, said a press release here.

The Religious Harmony and Awareness Enhancement Project of the Religious Affairs Ministry organized the workshop.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had laid the foundation stone for building a non-communal Bangladesh by inserting the principle of secularism in the Constitution, Faridul said.

“We want to build Bangladesh as a civilized country by ensuring the welfare and security of the people of minority religious communities,” he added.

Noting that the extremism, terrorism and militancy in the name of religion are the matters of abomination, the state minister said there is no room for terrorism and militancy in Bangladesh.

Faridul added that religious extremism, terrorism and militancy will be resisted with collective efforts of all.

Secretary of the Religious Affairs Ministry Md Nurul Islam and Project Director Abdullah Al Shahin joined the virtual programme, among others.
