Anisul for strong legal infrastructure to build prosperous nation

DHAKA, Dec 23, 2020 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said a strong legal infrastructure, rule of law and financial progress are a must for building a prosperous and affluent nation.

“The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division is playing a significant role in formulating new laws and modernizing the existing ones, on which the present government has given emphasis,” he said.

The minister said these while virtually addressing a program organized marking the founding anniversary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, an official release said.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, after forming government for the first time in 1996, established the Legislative Drafting Wing and upgraded it to Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division on December 23, 2009, after coming into power once again. This division has provided overall assistance to the government in building a legal infrastructure,” he added.

The minister said the country under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made a bid progress in establishing rule of law, poverty alleviation, food, nutrition, motherhood, health, education, agriculture, electricity, communications, infrastructure development, sports, telecommunication, culture and social security and these have been lauded in the international arena too.

“From 2009 till now, drafts of 510 important acts have been formulated and vetting were done on those, 44 ordinances were formulated, drafts of 4415 rules, regulations, orders and policies were made and vetting were done with the assistance of this division,” Anisul further said.

The minister also said the http://bdlaws.minlaw.gov.bd website is an online collection of all the acts used in Bangladesh which were formulated from 1799 till now. Emphasizing on the importance of the Legislative Division, the minister said the government is considering initiating Legislative Cadre Service.

Presided over by Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary Md Moinul Kabir, the program was also addressed by chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Matin Khasru and Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar, among others.

A documentary on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s contribution in establishing rule of law and justice and backdrop of establishing Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division and its activities, was screened at the start of the programme.
