77 churches get grants to celebrate Christmas in Birganj

RANGPUR, Dec 23, 2020 (BSS) – The government distributed Taka 17.23 lakh among 77 churches today to assist the Christian community in celebrating the upcoming Happy Christmas in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief distributed the grants at a function arranged by Birganj upazila administration abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic at the upazila parishad auditorium.

Chairman of Birganj upazila parishad Md. Aminul Islam distributed the grants as the chief guest in the function presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abdul Quader.

Upazila level leaders of the Christian community, Assistant Engineer of the Local Government and Engineering Department Mizanur Rahman Mizan and Birganj Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mohammad Sanaullah were present at the time.

The chief guest distributed Taka 22,383 among each of the 77 church authorities in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district.

Congratulating the Christian community on the occasion of Happy Christmas, the chief guest said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony and the present government is working to ensure welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

“The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina firmly believes in communal harmony and people of all faiths in the country are enjoying equal rights in nurturing their own religious rituals,” he said.

He called upon religious leaders of all faiths to assist the present government and work unitedly imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation to establish sustainable peace, equality and brotherhood in the society for speeding up national progress.
