Producing skilled workforce stressed for enhancing remittance

RANGPUR, Dec 23, 2020 (BSS) – Production of skilled human workforce and their safer migration has become a need of the time to enhance remittance inflow and ensure their honour and dignity both at home and abroad.

Officials made the observation in a function organised by the district administration and District Employment and Human Resources Office at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in observance of the International Migrants Day-2020 on Tuesday afternoon.

Government and NGO officials, returned expatriates, relatives of expatriates, overseas jobseekers, students and teachers attended the function arranged abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan attended the function as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Arafat Rahman in the chair.

Expatriate Bangladeshis Rakibul Islam, Fazlur Rahman and Rashed Al Rony shared their experiences and suggested overseas jobseekers for becoming skilled workforce before going abroad to earn more wages and live with dignity.

Assistant Director of District Employment and Manpower Office Amena Parveen discussed the steps taken by the government to enhance skills and expertise of overseas jobseekers by imparting training and ensuring their safer migration.

Long-term strategies and programmes have been adopted to make the migration system easier and hassle-free using the information and communication technologies to ensure welfare, rights, honour and justice of migrants both at home and abroad.

The chief guest stressed on proper utilisation of the country’s population dividend by turning youths into skilled workforce before sending them abroad following appropriate rules and procedures to ensure their better wages, safety, security and dignity.

“Despite the coronavirus pandemic, expatriate Bangladeshis are contributing to the national economy along with maintaining an increasing trend of the remittance inflow,” he said.

Later, he distributed Taka 6.12 lakh as education stipend among 45 brilliant students who are heirs of expatriates and crests among three highest remittance senders of the district and their relatives.
