29 more positive test for COVID-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 22, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-nine more people were tested
positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today after testing their samples
at the two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 29 new cases were reported after
diagnosing 234 samples collected from all eight districts of the
division at the infection rate of 12.93 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 11.37 percent on Monday,
13.30 percent on Sunday, 17.76 percent on Saturday, 16.26 percent on
Friday, 14.81 percent on Thursday and 11.97 percent on Wednesday last
in the division.

Among the 29 new patients diagnosed, 13 were reported positive
after diagnosing 140 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 13 new patients include 11 of Rangpur and two of Gaibandha
districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 16 new patients were reported after diagnosing
94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 16 new COVID-19 patients include 10 of Dinajpur, five of
Nilphamari and one of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing
process at 7 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19
patients rose to 15,199 as 29 new positive cases were reported.

“The district-wise break up of the 15,199 patients stands at 3,890
in Rangpur, 761 in Panchagarh, 1,302 in Nilphamari, 953 in
Lalmonirhat, 990 in Kurigram, 1,465 in Thakurgaon, 4,416 in Dinajpur
and 1,422 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
