GAIBANDHA, Dec 21, 2020 (BSS) – Harvest of T-Aman paddy, a high valued crop, has been completed in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season.
Office sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to bring a total of 1,26,000 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy cultivation this year with the production target of 3,52,800 tonnes of clean rice.
Later, the target fixed by the department was exceeded and additional 2050 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation till September 15 by virtue of favorable climatic condition during the current season.
Of them, some 18520 hectares of land were cultivated in Sadar upazila, 15,730 in Sadullapur upazila, 14170 in Palashbari upazila, 31550 in Gobindaganj upazila, 28193 in Sundarganj upazila, 12668 in Saghata upazila and 7219 in Fulchhari upazila.
In order to make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair prices through its sale centers and approved dealers, office sources said.
Besides, DAE also distributed seedlings of late variety of aman paddy seedlings produced on the community seed bed, floating seedbeds, tray seed beds at the management of the DAE officials were distributed to a large number of flood affected farmers of the district this season
Apart from it, different state run commercial banks including RajshahiKrishiUnnayan Bank (RAKUB) disbursed agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers of the district to help them cultivate the T-Aman paddy on their land this season, said SarwarcHossain, zonal manager of RAKUB here.
In addition, DAE had conducted training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seed, said most. Sahera Manu, district training officer of DAE.
To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, BMDA has also supplied irrigation water to the Aman paddy field through 505 electricity run deep tube wells, said executive engineer of BMDA M. Azadul Islam.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE agriculturist Masudur Rahman said necessary measures had been taken for availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other agriculture inputs at the grass root level of the district during the current Aman season.
Now the farmers were taking preparations to farm the Boro paddy during the current season and for the farming, the farmers had prepared seed bed on the wet and low land to produce the quality seedlings in a bid to farm the Boro paddy successfully, he concluded.
