COVID-19 cases rise to 15,106 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 20, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has reached 15,106 in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate of the deadly virus continues to show a declining trend in recent days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,106 in the division with 27 more infections reported on Saturday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 27 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 152 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division as the daily infection rate is 17.76 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 16.26 percent on Saturday, 16.26 percent on Friday, 14.81 percent on Thursday, 11.97 percent on Wednesday, 12.50 percent on Tuesday and 15.16 percent on Monday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,106 patients stands at 3,858 in Rangpur, 759 in Panchagarh, 1,295 in Nilphamari, 953 in Lalmonirhat, 990 in Kurigram, 1,461 in Thakurgaon, 4,371 in Dinajpur and 1,419 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 92,883 collected samples were tested in the division till Saturday, and of them, 15,106 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 16.26 percent.

At the same time, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 13,716 with the recovery of 19 more infected people in the division on Saturday with the average recovery rate of about 90.80 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate of 16.26 percent is currently 5.58 times less that the recovery rate of 90.80 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 13,716 recovered patients include 3,269 of Rangpur, 724 of Panchagarh, 1,228 of Nilphamari, 921 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,265 of Thakurgaon, 4,050 of Dinajpur and 1,331 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 282 in the division with one more death reported from Nilphamari on Saturday.

“The district-wise break up of the 282 fatalities stands at 65 in Rangpur, 99 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.87 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,106 COVID-19 infected patients, 69 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 13,716 patients and 282 deaths while 1,039 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the COVID-19 infection rate continues to decline in recent days.

He suggested everyone to properly wear masks and abide by the health directives to remain safe during the current second wave of the deadly virus spread in the winter.
