Winning start for Air Force, Navy in V-day hockey opener
DHAKA, Dec 19, 2020 (BSS)- Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy made a flying start in the Victory Day Hockey Competition beating their respective rivals in their opening matches held today (Saturday) at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city.
In the day’s first match, Bangladesh Air Force bear Sonali Bank SRC by 5-2 goals with Debasish Kumar scored three goals while Mohammad Arshad and Sohanur Rahman added one goal apiece for Air Force.
On the other hand, Nayteem Uddin and Robi scored one goal each for Sonali Bank.
In the day’s second match, Bangladesh Navy defeated Bangladesh Police team by 7-2 goals.
In the day’s proceeding, Mainul Islam and Ashraful Islam scored a brace each while Fazle Hossain Rabbi, Khorsedur Rahman and Roman Sarkar supported them with one goal apiece for Navy. Mohsin and Amirul Islam scored one goal each for Police team.
Organised by Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF), a total of five teams are taking part in the competition, which is being held to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The participating teams are Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Police and Sonali Bank RRC.
The top two teams will play in the final scheduled to be held on December 27.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell MP is expected to present in the final as the chief guest and distribute the prizes.
