SANGSAD BHABAN, July 9, 2018 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad today
passed the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Bill, 2018 aimed at providing
services and ensuring welfare to expatriates abroad and their family
members living in the country.

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc
moved the bill in the House and said the proposed bill would incorporate
the welfare issues of migrant workers that are missing from the Overseas
Employment and Migrant Act 2013.

Later the House passed the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Bill, 2018 by
voice votes with Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mia in the chair.

The minister said that the new law, following its enactment, was expected
to scotch any misuse of the welfare fund. He said returnee migrants facing
distress on return to Bangladesh would be entitled to get loans on soft
terms from the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.
