International Migrants Day-2020 observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 18, 2020 (BSS) – International Migrants Day-2019 was observed in the district today with a call to protect the rights of migrant workers and members of their families.

Marking the day, district administration, Technical Training Centre (TTC) and the District Employment and Manpower Office jointly chalked out elaborate programmes.

In the morning, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here with additional DC (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat in the chair.

DC Abdul Matin attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest while principal of Technical School and College engineer Siddiqur Rahman, senior instructor of the TTC Amir Hossain, district employment and manpower officer Nesarul Haque were present at the event as the special guests. Syed Abdus Salam, assistant general manager of Janata Bank Ltd also delivered a speech on behalf of the bakers’ forum of the district.

DC Abdul Matin emphasized on safeguarding the rights of migrant workers and their family members anyhow, saying that the migrant workers are playing a significant role to earn remittance to push forward the country towards desired development.

Later, cheques for Taka 77,000 were disbursed to the seven students whose fathers work in different countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia.

A large number of officials, bankers, NGO activists, instructors, students of Technical College and journalists of print and electronic media attended the programmes spontaneously.
