Payra Port will act as a supporting force in economy: Khalid

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid
Mahmud Chowdhury today said Payra Port will act as a supporting force
in the country’s economy by 2035.

“There is an immense marine potential in the country. We have to
take the country forward by utilizing the potential. Payra port will
act as a supporting force in the country’s economy by 2035,” he said.

Khalid was speaking at a contract signing ceremony at a city hotel
for the Emergency Maintenance Dredging Project at the Rabnabad Channel
of Payra Port.

He said the activities of Padma Bridge and Payra Port will be
expanded across the country while Bangladesh will go ahead under the
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Noting that Sheikh Hasina is a role model in the world, the state
minister said the role of the prime minister is lauded around the
world.

The agreement was signed between the Payra Port Authority and a
Belgium-based dredging company for the implementation of an emergency
dredging project to maintain a depth of 6.3 metre in the Rabnabad
Channel (Inner and Outer Channel) of Payra Port.

The deal was signed by Commodore Humayun Kallol, chairman of the
Payra Port Authority, and Janmoins, project director of the
Belgian-based dredging company Jan de Null.

Shipping Secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and member of
Payra Port Authority (Harbor and Marine) Commodore Mamunur Rashid,
among others, were present on the occasion.
