DHAKA, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) – The Dhaka University (DU) authorities
have established a mural titled ‘From the Language Movement to the
Liberation War’ commemorating the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with all other martyrs.

The mural portraying the country’s historic events from 1952’s
Language Movement leading up to the Liberation War of 1971 was
unveiled on Wednesday by Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Dr M
Akhtaruzzaman in an occasion, said a press release.

The mural is located inside university’s Dr Muhammad Shahidullah
Hall which was made under the planning and supervision of the current
Hall Provost Prof Dr Syed Humayun Akhter of university’s geology
department.

While addressing the event, Akhtaruzzaman said the Liberation War
of 1971 is the consequence of 1952’s Language Movement. “Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman played the key role in our
struggle for freedom,” he added.

“The Language Movement created a non-communal Bengali nationalist
spirit which led us towards independence, and we finally had achieved
victory,” he added.

Akhtaruzzaman hoped that the students of the university would get
inspiration from the mural depicting Bangladesh’s road to
independence.

Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall is one of the three founding
residential halls of the university which was established in 1921 as
Lyton Hall.

Later, it was subsequently renamed Dhaka Hall and renamed again
after the famous linguist Dr Muhammad Shahidullah following his death
in 1969.
