Mustard yield likely to surpass target in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Dec 17, 2020 (BSS) – Mustard yield is likely to surpass target
in Jamalpur as farmers of the district have cultivated the crop on extended
land than the previous year.

According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), farmers of the
district have cultivated mustard on 21,850 hectares of land which is 310
hectares more than the last year.

The DAE disbursed incentive among 33,000 small and marginal farmers for
increasing mustard production in the district. Each of farmers got mustard
seed to cultivate 33,000 Bighas of land.

The offices said farmers cultivated mustard on 6000 hectares of land with
a production target 8100 tonnes in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

On the other hand, 5020 hectares with a production target 6777 tonnes in
Islampur, 3650 hectares with a production target 4928 tonnes in Sarishabari,
3100 hectares with a production target 4185 tonnes in Melandah, 2000 hectares
with a production target 2700 tonnes in Bakshiganj, 1410 hectares with a
production target 1904 tonnes in Dewanganj and 670 hectares with a production
target 905 tonnes in Madarganj Upazila.

Deputy Director, DAE, Md Aminul Islam said implementation of various
incentive programmes have increased mustard cultivation this year.
